Question: I'm confused! I don't understand what makes a good movie anymore!!?
Ok, my good friend, who is a film student, just showed me a short film!. It was about a guy who loves cats!. It just shows him looking at pictures of his cats and basically just shows him loving his cat!. After I saw it, I wasn't impressed at all!. I said the directing was fine, but there was no real story and there was a weak character, since the only thing that defined him as a character was his love of cats!. To me, this seems shallow!. He could be a murder for all I know!. I don't feel like I know him!. I was confused when I learned that many of the other students liked the film!. This has made me question!.!.!.do I really know what makes a good film!? I was looking for a story and really didn't see one, but my friend says there is a story; and that story is that a guy likes cats!. So!.!.!.!.that's it!?
Now, I know it's hard to do a film with no dialog (which this one had to be), but I think it could and should have a lot more than that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I agree with your assesment!. Too shallow!. Need charecter!. Remember Charlie Chaplin and the movies of his era!? Well, not like you were around back then, (neither was I) but it was the way the actor carried himself that told a story!. Your friend has no story!. No depth!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
From what I hear, I think I'd agree with you!. Of course, I'd have to see the film as a work to really give an honest opinion!. Don't worry about it though, chances are those film students are just trying to be pretentious and don't want to admit they didn't like the film!. You CAN do character development with no dialogue!. to me a good movie is something that has character depth and a good deep plot that makes you think!.
