Why!? also Do you think Andy murdered his wife and her lover!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
nup he didn't murder them!.!. remember tommy who the warden got shot!? he was in jail at some point with the guy who actually did it!.

but i think i would say it's an uplifting ending!.!. apart from the fact that andy was in jail for 20 years before escaping and that he no longer had his wife!.!.

but didn't you love red's speech at the end about how "rehabilitation is bullshit" !.!.!. nice one red :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

I found the movie sad, but more so uplifting (one of my favourite films)!. The colour and light in the scenes where there was freedom, such as when the men were drinking beer on the roof, or when Andy put the opera music on over the PA system, or when Red was in the field, that was beautiful!. also, some of Red's narratives, they were really beautiful!. I also think you missed a bit about Andy's innocence - it seemed pretty clear to me he was not the killer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Parts were sad and tragic, but it's pretty obvious the ending is somewhat uplifting!.
And no, I didn't think Andy murdered his wife and her lover!. It's damn obvious from his recation to Tommy's story!. The whole ending pretty much summed up Andy's innocence; he was finally free after spending so much of his life serving time for something he didn't do!. He was so determined to free himself; so I don't think he'd have tried to escape if he was actually guilty!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, first of all, you know from the beginning that he's innocent!. It shows him in the beginning contemplating killing them while drunk in his car!. The guy who admits to the murders in prison is the real killer!.

To answer the main question I would say that it's both sad and uplifting!. It's sad that the man lost so much of his life because of a corrupt system, but because he beat that system and escaped it's uplifting!. If he had died while crawling through the sewers at the end, now that would have been just sad!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's got a really uplifting overall tone but if you are too sensative and don't know the ending is so happy, I've seen people not be able to make it that far!. You probably didn't since you don't know if he murdered his wife!.

If you can give it another try - but if you weren't "uplifted" by any of the classic moments like the beer on the roof of Opera in the yard, maybe things are just to different since that movie was made!.!.!.!.!. i am at a wierd age where things i love are not being appreciated and i'm started to understand how my grandparents felt when i told them frank sinatra was so boring!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Both -- that's one of the great things about this film!. Mostly uplifting, though!.

No, he did NOT murder his wife and lover!. This is the whole point of the story!. Read the book!. (It's in Stephen King's "Different Seasons!.")Www@Enter-QA@Com

Of course he didnt murder them, the movie proved that, it was a good movie, but for some reason I just didnt care for it, if that makes sense!.!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
