If Broke Back Mountain was about a man and a woman....?!

Question: If Broke Back Mountain was about a man and a woman!.!.!.!.!?
If Broke Back Mountain was a forbidden love story between a man and a woman, do you think it would have won all the acclaim it had during its run in 2005/2006!?

Personally, I think it got all the accolades because two high profile actors played gay cowboys!. A friend and I debated this issue because she thought it was a better film than Crash, which won the Oscar that year!. I told her to take out the two gay cowboys and replace them with a male cowboy and a female cowboy and it becomes a run of the mill forbidden love story!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I completely agree with you; taking the homosexual element out of the film would have made it another stale forbidden love film!.
I believe that the movie was tastefully done in the aspect of showing how even two "straight" men could, and did, give in to showing true affection for each other and dealing with the moral implications of it!.
I believe that the movie's strongest aspect was showing that homosexuality isn't just about sex; it's about love!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The film did get most of its hype from the fact that it was a gay love story, but that doesnt change the fact that the film itself was wonderfully written, beautifully directed and photographed, and terrifically acted!. It was a great great film regardless of whether or not the characters were two men or a man and a woman!.
Now having said that, the film likely did still need the added emphasis of the gay theme to just get made in the first place!. It was the fact that they were gay that made it into a movie!. If it had just been a man and woman then it wouldnt not have been unique!. But if it hadnt been written, directed, and acted as well then it would have been a great film also!. So I agree with you to some degree, but even without the gay theme it was still an amazing film in every other way!.
And also, in my opinion, there was absolutely now way that Crash should have beaten out Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture!. Now Crash was a run of the mill picture with nothing too special!. I liked it alot, but Brokeback was an infinitely better film!.
Of course it garnered more hype because it was about two gay cowboys, but the hype surrounding the film itself (minus the gay storyline) was well deserved!. It was an amazing film regardless of the fact that it was about two gay cowboys!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Similar, in so many ways to Philadelphia with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington!. There is no way Hanks would have won best actor except he portrayed a gay man, in a weak relationship taking on the system!. He won the award not for the performance, but for the role!

So too Brokeback - well made, but ultimately a forbidden fruit tale that sold out in terms of the devestating consequences for the respective partners!. Instead, we get the notion that they ave done the right thing, by choosing their own happiness over their family, their wives and the commitments that they had made!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think is the scripts on man and man love story plus the good acting of the actors that make the movie won the acclaim!.

Think about it, if the movie Titantic base also on love story of two men!. Will it get the same impact!? Will the box office sink or even better than the orignal one!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well yeah, it would become run of the mill with a man and a woman!. Because the whole POINT of the movie is homosexuality!.

If you took the tragedy out of Romeo and Juliet, that would be pretty run of the mill too!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
