Question: An introduction to Star wars!.!.!.where would you start!?
I am about to show my two daughters,10 & 13 the epic classic saga of Star Wars on our movie night!. Neither one has seen the movies and I am undecided where to start now that the newer movies pre-date the originals!.

This question gets asked a lot and while there may be pros and cons on both sides but if you want to enjoy the full experience of the Star Wars saga then my "sage" advise would be for you to show them to your girls ep 4 - ep 6 then ep 1 - ep 3 !.!.!. to steal a line from Vader: "Search your feelings !.!.!. you will KNOW it to be true"!. Why !.!.!. well this is just my "theory" but it kind of holds water!.

Start with the fact that they were released that way and that is how the story was meant to be told!. Watching them this way will also keep the "suspense" in them!. Both of the trilogies "tell" on the secrets of the others but the prequels take much of the suspense out of the OT with some of the info learned in them!. There is a scene in episode V: The Empire Strikes Back that was voted # 4 by SAG as one of the most shocking revelations in the entire history of film !.!.!. if you've seen the movies then you know what scene I'm talking about !.!.!. if you watch them 1 - 3 then 4 - 6 you will lose the "WTF" value it carried in 1980 because you will already know what it is and it won't seem like a big deal to you!. The problem with that is that this event WAS a big deal to the saga itself!. It basically took everything we thought we knew and tossed it into the recycle bin!. To this day I remember what happened in the theater I was in to watch this movie for the first time and heard Darth Vader utter 5 words that turned the Star Wars saga upside down !.!.!. absolute silence !.!.!. you could have heard a pin drop 10 miles away !.!.!. we were stunned silent by this "revelation" !.!.!. this went on for about 10 seconds and then one by one you heard people say, no way !.!.!. he's lying !.!.!. don't believe him Luke !.!.!. and it went on until Luke made his decision and then another cheer went up in the crowd!. Yeah, that's the kind of "crazy" we were back then !.!.!. remember !.!.!. this trilogy grabbed the people of our generation and said !.!.!. you think that was cool !.!.!. watch this!. It's kind of like it was back in the 50s when all the kids were listening to that "Devil Music" called Rock n Roll!. It was one of those things that had to be felt not seen!. I doubt we will ever seen any movie in any genre that will come close to topping this saga !.!.!.

There is one other thing to decide also with respect to the OT (ep 4 – ep 6) … there are 3 versions of these movies … the ones that came out to theaters in 77 – 83 … the SE versions that came to theaters in 97 … and the DVD versions that came out in 2004!. Is there much difference between the 3 versions … for the most part no!. The main thing that was changed was picture quality and sound quality!. Lucas did change some scenes and did add some small scenes!. I would suggest you watch the DVD versions as they are the “final” word according to Lucas!. If you’ve never seen the movies and watch the DVD versions you won’t know why many, many fans want to smack Lucas up side the head for the change he made to the end of ep 6 !.!.!. then again, if you have seen the movies you know what scene I'm talking about!. If you don't remember grab any true Star Wars fan and ask them what they think about the "Ghost Switch" !.!.!. if you've got yourself a real Star Wars "nut" you will see their face turn beet red in rage and smoke will start pouring out of their ears !.!.!. then they will launch into a tirade about how Lucas was insane or what the hell was he thinking or some other remarks that I can't use here !.!.!. lol !.!.!.

Ok, Ok, OK !.!.!. maybe that's just what would happen if you asked me what I thought of the "Ghost Switch" but there might be a couple other "nuts" out there that would agree with me !.!.!. lol !.!.!.

Anyways, I do have to say that it brings a smile to my face and a little warmth to my soul to see that you want to share this incredible story with you children !.!.!. it's really cool and I salute you for that!. I wish that I could have had the chance to do that but my fiance died in a car accident 16 years ago while she was pregnant with our first child and the hole it ripped in my soul is something that I've never been able to overcome!. That may seem strange to some but I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would not be able to make it through a hurt like that again, I almost didn't make it through it the first time, so I've stayed away from anything that could hurt me like that again!. The upside of things is that I've been able to turn my niece and nephew into mega Star Wars "geeks", my to my sister's dismay !.!.!. lol !.!.!. , so I have been able to pass along my love of Star Wars to the next generation and that will have to be good enough!.

Many people "trash" the prequels, even here I think there was a couple answers I read that say to not even show them those three movies!. I really can't abide by that!. Even as a true Star Wars Geek I will be the first to admit that the prequels were flawed !.!.!. at least ep 1 & 2 !.!.!. personally I thought that ep 3 rocked from start to finish but that's just me I guess!. I really wish that fans would stop and think about just why they didn't like the prequels and actually say why they don't like them instead of saying "they suck"!. When I stop and do that I come up with two main reasons why they weren't as good as the originals!. First, Lucas got too hung up on all the fancy different ways he could blow things up with all the new CGI that they had developed at ILM and forgot that what made Star Wars story so great !.!.!. the story itself!. Second, and probably more important , is that when Lucas decided to make the prequels he had to do the impossible !.!.!. make 3 more movies as good as or better than the original trilogy !.!.!. it couldn't be done!.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble but the Star Wars saga has had a huge impact on my life and when I get babbling about it I lose track of what I'm saying!. I guess the main thing I'm trying to say is that ep 4 - 6 then ep 1 - 3 is the way to go if you want your girls to feel the true magic of Star Wars !.!.!. but that's just my opinion!.

May The Force Be With You !.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yeah, i'm not as big a fan of the new ones as i am of the origionals but if you really want to tell the story you should start with episode 1!. that way they can see the whole story as it develops!. but, you should make sure that they understand that the first three movies where made twenty five years after the episodes 4,5,and 6 because i'm sure that they are gonna' wonder why the graphics are so different from 3 to 4!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i, being a huge 14 year old star wars fan, would start with A New Hope!. If they don't know how Darth Vader came to be, then it would spoil the whole "i am your father" in episode 5 if you watched it from The Phantom Menace!. i would show them A New Hope to Return of the Jedi, then from The Phantom Menace to Revenge of the Sith!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Personally, I'd show them the original trilogy and skip the prequels altogether!. They almost ruin a great thing!. I'm still not sure what the heck George was thinking!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Show her the originals!Www@Enter-QA@Com

At Phantom Menace and go from there!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

First, I'd explain that daddy got beat up a lot in high school!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
