The Godfather deals with crime families / organizations / mafia!. It has scenes with violent crimes, shootings, murders, horse decapitated head on the bed of his owner, and how a man Michael, who was out of that world become more brutal than his own father the former Godfather!. also shows a couple having sex but fully clothed and standing behind a door!.
The Shawshank Redemtion deals with an inocent man sent to prision where he is subject to prision-homosexual-gang rape, fights, injustice from the corrupt warren & guards and worms in his food!. It also present suicide (one just mentioned and another where you see the feet of the person while hanging himelf)!. also the murder of an inmate who was going to reveal evidence of the inocense of the main character!. There is no nudity in the rape scenes but much fights and violence!.
The Godfather presents more blood in the crimes than The Shawshank Redemtion, sex theme is strong in the last vs almost absent in the the Godfather!.

i think godfather is better than shawshank redemption
because i think it is better movie than shawshank redemption even though it has less violence it has few homosexual villains,
who traps the hero and try to do thing which i think a 12 year boy can watch !. i prefer violence than homosexual scene
so i prefer godfather
and i don't think it has that much violence
but don't show homosexual to that kid

godfather is less violent!. neither would be suitable for a 12 year old boy though!. the godfather moves slow and requires attention!. i recall people getting beaten in jail and forced to perform oral sex in the shaw shank redemption!. Im not sure how one can say shawshank was less violent than the godfather!. people got shot in the godfather but the movie was made so long ago your kid could find more realistic violence in video games!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
