Answers:
Nosferatu (go silent)
Phantom of the Opera (The original with Lon Chaney is the only way to go)
Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein ("Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a good movie, the atmosphere of black and white film along with Karloff's monster are hard to beat)!.
Dracula (treat yourself to comparing the two versions that were made simultaneously!. The Spanish Language version that was filmed at the same time as Tod Browning's Bela Lugosi film is a much more visually appealing!. With the exception Carlos Villarias does not have the stage presence displayed by Lugosi!.
Night of the Living Dead (The original is still the best in my opinion)
Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter)
Something Wicked This Way ComesWww@Enter-QA@Com

Some of these are older film, but I recommend them all!.

"The Bride of Frankenstine" (best Frankenstine movie ever)

"The House of Dracula" (has a happy ending for the Lon Chaney Jr!. Wolfman character)

"The Thing (from another world)" (the original version from the early 50s, not the John Carpenter version with Kurt Russel)

"I Walked with a Zombie" (lovely, lyrical film that also manages to be disturbing, the best of the Val Lewton produced horror movies of the war era)

"Tarantula" (intelligent, well made movie about a spider on the loose who is growing at an exponential rate!. Great use of setting, crisp dialogue, and all around first rate production)

"The Blood on Satan's Claw" (probably hard to find, but worth the effort to track it down!. Very effective period piece, with a disturbing scene in which a young woman actually grows long animal-like claws)

"Targets" (Perhaps the first truely modern horror movie, based vaguely on the Charles Whitman case, and featuring Boris Karloff in a very effective role)

"Night of the Demon" (Great little B film that deals with covens and black magic in a very convincing manner!. Marred by the producer's insistance that there be at least one scene showing a demon, but still miles above most such movies)

"The Haunting (of Hill House)" (Several nights in a very haunted house with a great small cast!. Contains a memorable scene that proves what you can imagine is far more frightenng that what anyone can show you!. This is the original version of the story, not the dreadful remake from the late ninties)

"The Wicker Man" (Gripping mystery about what is really going on on an isolated island off the British coast!. Once again, look for the original version from the seventies, not the dreadful, more recent remake)

"The Driller Killer" (Far better than its title, this urban horror story is a great character study and has elements of black humor!. One of the rare horror films to deal with economics)

"Werewolves on Wheels" Strange but effective genre bender which combines the biker movie with the horror film!. Highly entertaining because it stays true to the conventions of both genres!. One mysterious scene involving a sandstorm is unforgetable)

"Picnic at Hanging Rock" (Based on a real incident, this Peter Weir film features a mystery without a solution!. Not truely a horror film but conveys a genuinely errie mood, and does not fit comfortably into any other genre!. Highly recommended)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Halloween
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Evil Dead (and two and Army of Darkness)
Any George A!. Romero movies (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, so on, so on)

Modern wise-you should watch some Japanese horror movies, those never fail to impress me, things like Ju-On, The Eye (NOT the one with Jessica Alba in it :D), or Audition!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
