I'm not familiar with the Notebook but I could recommend Charlie Bartlett which is hilarious and has some very poignant moments as well!.
I don't know if you'd like a screwball comedy, but A Death at a Funeral is the funniest movie I've seen in ten years!. It has everything, drugs, outhouse humor, foul language and a marvelous plot!. As you may imagine, it's not exactly PC!.
Among the major films I'd recommend, Get Smart was very well done, as was Hancock which was funny as well as sad, particularly toward the end of the picture!. But, like Hollywood is wont to do, everything turns out well!.
Others you may like are Juno, Mad Money, 27 Dresses, Dan in Real Life, and Gross Pointe Blank!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Have you seen "Atonement"!? It is something like what you are looking for, and even if you don't like it, at least you get to see one of the best shots ever in that Dunkirk scene!.

"life is beautiful" has comedy/ romance and lots of sadness!. my fav movie of all time!. its in italian (comes with subtitles or dubbed in english)!. highly recommend it! i liked the notebook but i like this one better!. it will make you laugh and cry!. got many awardsWww@Enter-QA@Com
