I haven't read the book but the ending to the movie!. I could see why it ended that way!. the group drove until they ran out of gas, the mist haven't burn off, and they was in the middle of highway without a clue how far they have travel (nothing on the radio)!. so, they talk it over about how they want to go out since they have came to the end of their road (the end of the world)!. I guess they rather died than been eating alive by giants insects!.

i guess a few minutes later the mist was burning off, he saw road sign, and heard something in the distance!. first it was a helicopter, tanks, and soldiers in their bio chem suit, then truck with other survivor!. After seen all of that he had a break down that he kill his kid, gf and older people!. only if he knew how close they have been rescue!. How would you end the movie or think if it was you!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

it was a poor ending

Trivia items below here contain information that may give away important plot points!. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title!.

* SPOILER: Frank Darabont's "controversial" ending actually comes directly from Stephen King's source material!. Written in first-person, David entertains this notion in his mind as a distant possibility, noting there are three bullets and four people (Dan Miller doesn't make it to the car in the novella), but he ends his journal and leaves it in a restaurant the survivors have sought refuge in before the car runs out of gas!. Darabont felt this ending was too ambiguous and wrote the story to its finite climax, and ending that Darabont says in the DVD commentary was endorsed by King as the ending King wished he would have thought of!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The book does have a different ending, they hear one word "Hartford" on the radio and that gives them hope to keep traveling to Conneticut, hoping there is a relief effort under way down there!. The book ends with them just driving into the Mist, it leaves it up to you!.

I didn't like the movie ending!. The director said in an interview that he and the writers made it that way so that there would not be any chance of a sequel!. But come on! For me, the new ending ruined all of the movie magic that the original ending would have done for me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes, the book had a different ending!.

The book just has the group drive away, and that was it!.

The movie is WAY different!. Director Frank Darabont changed the ending and had Thomas Jane's character k!ll everyone except himself and people came by, which cleared the mist!.

Good movie, unexpected ending!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
