In the Jack Nicholson version, he has an accident at a chemical plant followed up by bad plastic surgery!. The Joker from the tv show never delved into that question!. Everyone I've talked to believes that it is up to the viewer to make their own judgement!. There's no definitive proof that either story the Joker told was true!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The movie did not give us a precise answer!. I love the part at the end when the Batman is over the Joker and the Joker asks if he know how he got his scars!. The Batman simply responds with, "No, but I know how you got these" and he shoots that weapon off of his wrist and goes right through his mouth!. Remarkable!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
