Well unless you're some sort of Italian American godfather wannabe, It shouldn't mean anything!.!.!. but in that context it refers to the mattresses that feuding families would sleep on in their rented "hideouts" while the "war" raged OR where their hired "soldiers" would sleep!. (Apparently)!.
