Well, you have to take into consideration the fact that the Italians no longer have the monopoly on organized crimes!. There's the Yakuza, the Chinese Tongs and the Russian Mob not to mention the South American Drug Cartels!. To dismiss actors from roles in organized crime roles solely because they're not Italian is a bit biased don't you think!? Unless of course you meant Italian mob roles, then I think there are some up and coming young actors who may fill those shoes!. Johnny Depp, Leonardo Di Caprio, Giovanni Ribisi, Benjamin Bratt and James Franco come to mind!. Then there's also Olivier Martinez and Jude Law who although not Italians have enough intensity onscreen and chameleon like skills to play mob roles!. And I'm sure there are more who escaped my mind at the moment!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

so i would say grittier actors possible of playing hoods are
ryan reynolds ,jason statham ,vinnie jones ,robert downey jnr,
clive owen!.!.!.!.!.
and more obscurely al murray [british comedian]
