I don't think his character killed him, no!. I know he died by over dose and the mixture of the different pills had a chemical reaction that caused his death!. I believe that he was going through stress!. During the filming of The Dark Knight (being a major role), he was also filming I'm Not There the same time!. It was said that he only had two hours of sleep, I believe he said that in an interview!. Of course casting as The Joker, he had to live alone for a month to get The Joker's mind, posture, voice, etc down!. That being said, he couldn't see his daughter at all!. I think he had anxiety, sleeping, and other type of prescription pills!. It's tough and stressful to imagine what he was going through though!. He died because he was mixing too many drugs!. You just can't do that and expect nothing to happen!. Plus, he had trouble sleeping, so that added to it!. He said filming the movie gave him so much adrenaline that he couldn't sleep!. I wouldn't blame it on the movie though!. It was his own fault!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
