It's setting the tone for the film and the characters of these girls!. It gets elaborated on a LOT in the scenes that follow!. You are supposed to feel uneased, that means it is effective!. You feel how these sisters feel and this is how they personally deal with the troubles they face each day!.

Some paint!. Some write songs, others might go jogging or watch TV!. These girls like to take artistic photos of death situations!.

Keep watching!. It's a great filmWww@Enter-QA@Com

their freaks and very anti social and thats how they get their sh*ts and gigglesWww@Enter-QA@Com

Oooh yay :D This is my favourite movie of all time! Has been for 5 years :)

They made the photographs in the first place for their school project!.

Like the other poster said, it sets the tone for the film and gives you a bit of insight into the girls' characters!. They're complete social outcasts, in it together against the world (as Brigitte says, "United against life as we know it")!. Ginger said "Suicide is the ultimate f*** you!.!.!. come on, B, it's so us" which also backs up this point - they want to get back at the world, like a lot of teenagers do!. They just seem a bit more extreme about it!

also, the project they were all assigned to do was "Life in Bailey Downs" (Bailey Downs is the name of the town in which they live)!. Making these photographs was a complete mockery of their world and their society - that life in Bailey Downs isn't worth living - hence the fake suicide photos!. They love to laugh at pretty much everyone who isn't them!.

The two girls are obsessed with death, like Ginger said "it's so us" and around their room they have other sinister photographs and drawings displayed!. I'm not sure if it's in the film, but on certain production photos you can see a wall chart of the days until they plan to kill themselves!.

Hope this helps :)Www@Enter-QA@Com
