Question: Why Titanic is the box-office champion for so long!?
I was a little too young when Titanic released!. I only know it has a nude scene that young kids (like me) cannot enter!. But there's a censored version too!.!.
Well my question is, why this film, a romantic story in a setting of a sinking boat, can sell so well until it was never repeated for the past 10 years, despite have greater special effects, better stories and better actors/actresses!.
I know never a movie embarked such a great special effects move like a replica of the ship, digital "sinking" of the ship!. But people remembered Jack and Rose more than body counts on Titanic!.

Although the story of the boat and the possible visuals brought millions of people in, it was the story of three lovers that kept them returning!. The thought that the destruction of your personal life surrounded by one of history's greatest calamities is something many can relate to (in our own smaller scale)!.
also, WORD OF MOUTH sold the movie!. If you had NO INTEREST in seeing this movie, that changed after 20 people at work began to rave about it, especially if they were someone you didn't expect to do so!. (The same thing occurred for the current #2 & #3 all time box office hits, Star Wars & The Dark Knight!.)
Finally, with the cost of living being so high for everyone currently, as well as the improvements in large screen digital TVs & home DVDs/ Blue Ray, less people desire/ can afford to go spend money & time in a theatre over & over again!.
Titanic occured at a perfect time in movie history!. Many movies (Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, etc) have sold more theatre tickets than Titanic, but ticket prices were higher for the latter, thus it made more money!. Ticket prices are currently higher for Dark Knight, Iron Man, Spiderman 2 & the Shreck movies, but less people are going to the movies regularly!. Even less are returning to a theatre to repeat a movie that will be available @ home in ~ 5 months!.
