Weeell, most movie scores are done in orchestra-type setting, along with choirs and things of the sort!. As for scores done that way, I think some really great work was done on The Lord of the Rings, the soundtrack is all-in-all captivating!. I also fell in love with Hans Zimmer after his work in Potc, and also The Dark Knight!.
The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, are also examples of greats with brilliant scores!. You also might want to try some good period films like Atonement, The Other Boelyn Girl, The Pianist, Amadeus, The Notebook -- yeah, things like that!.
