WATCHMEN is based on the most celebated graphic novel of all-time!. It was written in the mid-80s by Alan Moore, who also wrote V FOR VENDETTA, FROM HELL, and THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN!.
Its a multi-generational story about masked vigilantes who envision themselves as superheroes, but they dont have any superpowers (except for one who was the victim of a nuclear accident, of course)!. The form together to create a crime fighting organization, but soon disband, only to reunite years later after one of their original members is murdered!. This is difficult to do because these heroes have fallen out of favor with the public and their masked vigilantism has been outlawed, plus they dont really all like one another!.
Its an alternate history story, that goes back and forth between a fictional, but very similar 1940s-50s and 1970s-80s!.
It is a terrific book, a much more in depth and psychological look at the superhero myth!. The movie is directed by Zach Snyder (300 and DAWN OF THE DEAD remake) and is supposed to stay extremely faithful to the graphic novel, which is definitely a good thing!. By the looks of the trailer it should be a really good film!. I am looking forward to it!.
