in "Batman: The Dark Knight" the movie, Joker said told the mob boss he got his scars(his forced smile)from his father going "why so serious!?" but then he told Rachael he got his scars from himself carving a smile onto his face to make his scarred wife feel better!.

They are both wrong!. Along with his face paint purpose - Frighten his enemies!. The real way he got his scars was through an accident!. He fell in a giant pot of laboratory liquid which caused a side-effect of turning him into that color - white!. The movie doesn't necessairly follow the real deciption of the origin of the Joke!. But acording to the comic's -that is how!. The two scars on the left and right of his lips are from himself after he fell into the pot!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
yeah, he tells different stories beacuse the joker thinks that one story is boring, and he likes to tell several to keep it fun and interesting!.
