As a movie critic myself, I can tell you: we all have our own ratings systems!. Here at Entertainment Weekly, we use letter grades, but most critics at other outlets use a scale of 0 to 4 stars!. It's just a convention we borrowed from restaurant critics; it doesn't mean much!. Each critic decides on his or her own how many stars to give a movie!. Often, we disagree!. There is no official, definitive star rating for any movie, and there's no group or organization that averages all the critics' ratings, though you can see scores averaged from small pools of critics at sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic!. So whenever you see a star rating on a movie (say, in your TV listings), that's just one critic's opinion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Anyone who watches a movie can give a movie stars!. I heard of one movie that the top movie critics hated but the advertisement for the movie had four stars!. Through research it was discovered that a newspaper editor had given the movie the stars!. This is why the printing underneath the stars is so small!.
