It's so crazy that your christian cousins are like that, because mine are exactly the same way! I thought it was just something to do with my uncle being weird, but if there is more uniformity in it, then I'm bamboozled!. I once asked my cousin, but she told me that she thought it was because Harry Potter had a wand and used magic!. I was like, "Uh, did you sleep through Lord of the Rings!? Did you not see Gandalf THE FRIGGIN WIZARD with a wand five thousand times bigger than Harry Potter's!?" I think that fear of literature and the cinema is ridiculous when it comes down to religion!. They're all good versus evil stories in which good prevails, so I'm not sure what's so horrible about it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

LOTR, Narnia, Sleeping Beauty are tales the current "ruling class" of Christians were exposed to more than likely by family members or schools at first!. They were clearly identified as fantasy, included a lot of sword as well as sorcery which people associate with the Crusades and knightly morals!. Spider, Compass and Harry give more views of workable spells from darker homes than the older stories and just don't provide the blanket condemnation as they give readers more information and a choice as to which side where they can align their sympathies!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's probably because Narnia and Lord of the Rings have Christian undertones; Wizard of Oz and Sleeping Beauty are just classics that everyone loves (even though yes, I do recognize that they contain elements of the Occult in them)!.
But Harry Potter, Spiderwick Chronicles and the Golden Compass have no Christian undertones, and Harry Potter is pretty much shameless, in-your-face Occultism!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think it depends with every person!.its not that ur christian because iam and i know people that read their bible go to church and all that and still like that stuff!.so it differs with every person!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Im Christian and I Honestly Hate The Lord of the Rings!. So Please dont Put all Christians in One Category!. K Thx :] Www@Enter-QA@Com

OK, I'm going to ignore your kinda rude and stereotypical opinion of Christians, even though I AM one, so please read this!.

I don't believe that most Christians dislike Spiderwick!. I'm fine with it, and my mom is a big fan (please include the fact that she is very sensitive to Occult issues)!. In fact, we see God in that movie!.

The reason why we dislike The Golden Compass is that the movie and books are actually very anti-Catholic!. The author of the books has said himself that his goal is to stop everyone form believing in God!. The entire story is based on putting the Catholic faith down!.

As for Harry Potter, it comes just a little too close to real practices in Occult religions!. It actually leads some of the people who read it to practicing real Occult religions!. One person actually committed - ( I had to spell it like that or they wouldn't write it!.!.!. >:() because a spell in the book didn't work when they tried it!. In all actuality, most of the Catholic people/organizations who rate movies rated Harry Potter in such a way as to recommend it as it seems to have some Christian lessons in it!. Some of us, as individuals, just feel it is a bit too risky!.

The Wizard of Oz has no spells in it, thus it is not harmful unless the person watching it takes the fact that there are some witches and a wizard in it too seriously!.

The Chronicles of Narnia don't have any spells in them either, and the witch is a representative of the devil, thus, will be taken as a bad thing so no one will feel like being a witch!. The author meant Aslan to be representative of Jesus!. And the author IS Christian!.

The Lord of the Rings is actually very much based by the author on the story of Jesus, so that is obviously very loved by us!. Once again, there are no spells or mechanics of Occultism in this movie, or the books!. And the author IS Catholic!.

As for Sleeping Beauty, that merely has fairies in it, which are fine!.

The main point is, magic is fine, Occultism is not!. Say, witches!. There are real witches, so there is real danger!. It's also not about scariness!. Something could be as scary as hell, and it doesn't make it bad!. I hope I helped!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
