Why isn't A Clockwork Orange rated NC-17?!

Question: Why isn't A Clockwork Orange rated NC-17!?
I think it was originally rated X!. Did the rating requirements change at some point for an X rating!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
To my recollection A Clockwork (Orange) was originally rated X for sexual content!. The NC-17 rating did not exist back then!. If the movie were released now, it probably would receive a NC-17 rating!. The change from X to NC-17 came a few years ago, because of the connotation given to the X rating, due to many years of X-rated movies basically being explicit sex movies!.

The original intent of the X rating was lost over those years; the original intent being simply to prevent children under 17 from seeing material which was not considered appropriate for them!. Today, the NC-17 rating is used for that purpose, and there is no longer an "official" X rating!. (However, I am sure sexually explicit movies will continue to use the "X" rating--indeed, often using a "XXX" or similar designation as a selling point!)

For more information, check out the official MPAA website!. You can find all sorts of information about movie ratings there, including the history of how they came about in the first place!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

movies do change rating, good the bad and the ugly is an example!. and in australia it's R18+, which is a similar ratingWww@Enter-QA@Com

I believe it originally came out in two different versions, an X and an R (the rating system was different back then)Www@Enter-QA@Com

It was never X!. I think that once a movie is rated, it stays at that rating!. There was no NC-17 when it was released!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
