One from 'back then' that scared the bejeebers out of me was called 'The Boogeyman' (1980):

'Daughter of the Mind' (1969; Gene Tierney)
scaries as hell, when I was a kid!.!.!.

also, there was a super-creepy one about a teacher, her students, and some bad guys in masks (St!. Nick among them) called 'Fortress':

A much more recent one that was actually scary (if you watch it alone, and you don't have a short attention span) was 'The Ring' (the first one, not any sequels)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's because as time goes on things become more expensive, so rather than spend a bit more and make a quality movie Hollywood opts to go for the cheaper option and use CG!.

You named some of the classics there, but if you're just a fan of old horror I'd recommend checking out this site!. They post a lot of reviews and other things about that era of horror!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The late 1970's-1980's were a great time for horror movies!. There are several like House, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Halloween, The Omen, The Thing, etc!.

LOL, it is because Zemeckis, John Carpenter, Clive Barker, King, Romero, and others aren't pumping them out like they used to!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think there are a few effective horror films from this decade, such as 1408 and Haute Tension, but most of my favourites are from the 70's and the 80's!. You've obviously seen all the classics from this period (I'd include, Cujo, Carrie, Friday the 13th, and Halloween), but here are a few awesome ones that went under the radar:

Sole Survivor: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0181012/

The Sender: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0084658/

Rituals: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0076630/ (sadly, no good transfer exists)

also, be sure to check out Night Warning when it comes out on DVD:

The following are more well known, but if there are any among them you haven't seen, I recommend them:

The Prowler: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0082951/

Dead & Buried: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0082242/

Black Christmas: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0071222/

Shock Waves: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0076704/

Communion: http://www!.imdb!.com/title/tt0076150/

I could list many more, but some may just be personal preference, and the above should be enough to get you started!. Enjoy!Www@Enter-QA@Com
