As a fans of old Teens movies, i will say how teens movies now differ!? well, i think its completely because they rip off older movies!.
ex: American pie and superbad!.
two movies from two different era, i love American pie, and still am!. why!? cause its funny!. see the point of teen movie should be love ,friendship, craziness and sex!. and it was all delivered by American pie!.
on other hand, i like superbad!. it is not a bad movie, just that its boring!. i had seen it all, a loser kids wanna try to have fun!. *yawn*, and the last ending was so lame!. serious!? that i love you part was like bad!. and all this mclovin thing!? God, its so annoying i couldnt resist him at all, its cause i will not resist that kind of person in real life!.
and what statements they are making!? well its a teens movie so there cant be any statements except, fun and grow up to be who ever you wants and spend life having fun with your friends while you can :)
So it's basically just a gap generation difference!. not more!. but still now days teens movies should be creative enough rather then ripping off old goldies!.

By "the past", you seem to be referring to the 1980's!. These were dominated by the "Brat Pack" movies!. The dynamic of the Brat Pack is that each member consistutes a social stereotype (jock, preppy, geek, etc!.)!. Most of the drama and humor in these movies stems from contrasting the stereotypes!.
