Lifetime is a cable TV channel that caters to women!. A "Lifetime movie" is a made for Lifetime-TV movie that usually has elements of soap opera, or the old damsel/family in distress!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I can tell that people don't watch a lot of Lifetime movies! I've seen science fiction, fantasy, horror and other types of films on it!. "Disappearance", "The Marsh", "Between", "First Born" and others are much creepier than nearly anything I've seen that ran in theaters!. The so-called "chick flicks" are much better than mainstream ones, too, with none of the nastiness!.
A number of films are based on real-life crime cases!. I love "City Confidential", so it's cool to see a movie based on a case I saw on that program or even a fairly local case!. They aired an excellent one starring Jean Smart in the title role: "Overkill: The Aileen Wuornos Story" (1992)!. This film puts "Monster" (2003) to shame, and Smart didn't rely on makeup and gaining weight to capture the serial killer's appearance!. I admire Charlize Theron, but Smart puts her to shame in this role!.
A lot of people write off these movies, but they might be surprised how much they'd learn if they watch regularly!. One about a woman who found herself ejected from her own house after she rented a room to the wrong person was a real eye-opener! Forget "Pacific Heights", with all of its uber-drama; this film showed how an average person can lose control of the situation very early!. And, if all of those "I married a rat" stories make even one person think twice about the man or woman s/he is rushing to marry, it would be worthwhile!. Lifetime definitely shows that whirlwind courtships are not so wonderfully romantic every time!.
There are a lot of sappy films, but there are plenty of those in movie theaters, too!. But, I'll match a number of Lifetime's supernatural films to any theatrical releases! also, I don't have to risk seeing such *blech* actors as Will Smith, Paul Giamatti, Mark Wahlberg, Julia Roberts, and Reese Witherspoon!. I LIKE many of the actors and actresses who show up on Lifetime, including Kim Coates, Peter Outerbridge, Catherine Bell, Joanna Kerns and the aforementioned Jean Smart!.
Recently, I watched "Last Dance" starring Maureen O'Hara and Eric Stoltz for the second time!. She's still an amazing actress and still stunning in her 80s!. It's one of the better movies I've seen lately!. It's worth a hundred times what the atrocious "In the Land of Women" is!Www@Enter-QA@Com
