I like some Mel Gibson movies, but this one always seemed to be a bit "rough!."

This is a good question and though I can't answer it because I've wondered the same thing myself, I avoided it only because of my own religious beliefs and the fact that, though I've always loved Mel Gibson films, how could he direct such a thing while being anti-semetic himself!? I don't know that I trust him to portray the most famous Jewish person when he despises them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Mel Gibson movies - are you referring to movies he directs, or those he's in - because he's not in the Passion of the Christ, but he does direct it!.
Its a beautifully shot film, the cinematography is very effective, and many of the shots are framed in order to be evocative of many Renaissance works!. The pacing of the film is sluggish, and it has some antisemitic undertones that come from the source material (the Passion plays)!. It has many flaws, but is worth watching because its born of Gibson's passion (no pun intended) and life, and there's something very magnetic about that in a piece of art - when a creator ties himself so directly to his work!.
I haven't been a fan of much of Gibson's wok - I thought Braveheart was overwrought with christian overtones that beat you ove the head with their themes, but Apocalyto was a good movie - my favorite of his!.
He didn't have a hand in making Mad Max or the Patriot - he just acted in them!. Of all of them Mad Max is probably my favorite!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Mel Gibson may have been inspired to create the painful, violent ‘Passion of The Christ’ yet the huge profits accrued have not compelled him to make a sequel depicting the love and teaching of the Great man so viciously brutalised in his mega epic!. Such is the way of American Media persons, bleed the public, destroy their faith in God and their own waywardness, profit handsomely and leave with weight wallet!.

I wouldn't say it was accurate or so realistic as many people like to point out (particularly Christians who only endorse the movie just for the namesake), although it does stay true to the Biblical story of Jesus!.
In the end though, it's just a dramatic portrayal of the story of Jesus!. You can watch it as a fan of movies, as a religious person, or as something to pass the time!.
I would recommend you watching it, though I will not say it is in the league of Braveheart, but is on par with the Patriot!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hell no, it's hardly religious at all!. Some of the Jesus-freaks will endorse it solely because they can't criticize anything with Jesus in it, but the movie was pure torture-porn!. It was completely disrespectful to Christianity as a whole!. Mel Gibson is a closet aficionado of torture I think, and it shows in his disturbingly violent movies!.

Well its pretty simple!. If you are a christian you have to see it to get a better depiction of what Christ suffered!. If you are not its still good to see from a historical perspective to see what He suffered for only claiming who he was!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
it was quite graphic but not historicly correct!. it has implemented alot of fiction into the story which kind of turned me off a little!.

straight up!. its a very strong movie that has its meaningful moments, where some are sad and harder to watch than others!. Having said that though, its very good, but nothing like the other movies you've mentionedWww@Enter-QA@Com
