Question: Why did people like Donnie Darko!?
I really hated it, It seemed like a meaningless collaboration of images to me!. There was too much going on for anything to really be significant!. And I actually enjoy movies that stimulate though, but the more I dwelled on this one, the more apparent it became that there was no greater meaning behind it!. As opposed to films like Stay, Jaccob's Ladder, and The Machinist, the imagery was seemingly random and did not move the story forward in any way!. It was almost like someone filmed a very long and complicated dream, but like all dreams it lacked any kind of reason!. And it's not that I didn't get it, the storyline is actually fairly simple and by no means a new idea, the sacrifice of the self for the salvation of many!. But this film was just utterly incoherent with it's imagery and whatever symbolism it was trying to portray was utterly lost in translation!. Another thing that annoys me is that people say they loved this film, yet they also say they did not understand it!. What!? How can you "love" and appreciate something that you do not understand!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I have to agree with you!. I really enjoy movies like "Stay" and "Muholland Drive" and I thought I'd like "Donnie Darko" but it wasn't that hard to understand at all!. It could have been a good movie but it just seemed as though the director just wanted to put as much into the movie as he could, thinking it would be interesting!. I liked the plot, though it wasn't very original, but it just wasn't very appealing to me!. The movie did have it good points, but I think they could have done a much better job!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I liked it for it's imagery!. Donnie Darko has an interesting story!. I understood the movie in my perspective and everyone has their own take on it!. I think you are looking at it too hard and looking for one clear path!.

It's a very, very deep movie which has a lot of meaning behind it, you just need to watch it a few times to pick up on the themes!. If you look it up, you will find a lot about it on the internet which will help you to recognise and understand the themes in the movie, and then I recommend watching it again after doing that, to see the huge difference it makes!. i think it's a very crazy movie!. i enjoy movies that are just weird like that!. i don't look for my movies to be filled with meaning, i look for something that interests me while i sit there and watch it and donnie darko did that! Www@Enter-QA@Com

Not all movies are made for the mass market, and even mass market films don't target the focal group of the movie industry: the teenage dating couple!. These kids, believe it or not, are the "bread and butter" of the film industry in ALL nations!
Dating drives the movies, but some film makers hope to reach a more discerning audience that wants something a little different!. Many people hate the Coen Brothers movies (Fargo, No Country for Old Men, Intolerable Cruelty) yet these movies win Academy Awards all the time, and gross millions at the box office!.
