Sense and Sensibility: Is the movie as good as the book ?!
Question: Sense and Sensibility: Is the movie as good as the book !?
I'm almost done reading the book and I was wondering if the movie was good or at least accurate to the book!. I know Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson play Marianne and Eleanor and I like both those actresses so it sounds good!.

It is a sweet, wonderful movie!.
Of course it's going to deviate from the book a little!.!. they have to cut a couple characters and simplify a couple subplots just a little!.!.!. to fit it into a movie of reasonable length!.!. But Please, give it a try!! You just might love it!.
For one thing, the "cousin" that gives them the house!.!.!.!.I forget his name!.!. he has no (living) wife and no kids in the movie, like in the book!.!. Lucy Steel's sister is not in the movie either!.!. neither is John Dashwood's little boy!.!. but I think they stayed true to the storyline, for Hollywood!.!. They didn't change anything major, as far as I can tell!.!.
Alan RIckman is SOOO selfless and humble as Col!. Brandon!. And what a voice!!! His voice makes me melt LOL!.!.
Hugh Grant is perfect in the role of shy, akward, Edward!.
EMma Thompson looks too old to be Elinor!.!. but she gives an Oscar worthy performance!.!. I think she DID win an Oscar!.!. mostly due to her "breakdown" near the end err!.!.!. I don't want to go into a lot of detail in case you haven't gotten to that part of the book!.!.!.

Oh!.!. also look for "Dr!. House" in a minor role as the cranky Mr!. Palmer!!! LOL!.!. If you're not looking for him, chances are you won't realize it's him!!
It's one of my absolute favorite movies, actually!.!. give it a try!.!.
It stays true to the "feel" of Jane austin, in that it has impeckable morals and is a squeaky clean movie, with not one foul word (I think) and no sexual references or scenes (the closest being the discussion of Liza being pregnant out of wedlock)!.!. I love the book and the movie both!. There were a few minor changes for the movie, but it didn't detract from it!. This movie made me a fan of Alan Rickman for life!. My daughters and I haved watched it several times and I never get tired of it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yes, the movie is excellent!. They did a decent job of sticking to the storyline!.
