Question: In narnia prince caspian why an earth would edmund be carrying a torch to school!?
Answers:
Gillyahoo is right!.
Due to the constant barrage and bombardment during the London Air Raids, The lights and power in "The Tube" (or London Underground Railway Stations) were always going out, so Flashlights (or Electrical Torches) were already in use by the First World War and many schoolchildren carried them in case the tunnels collapsed or lights or power went out!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'd guess either because of, as the first poster said, possible electricity losses, or being prone to childhood mischief and possibly needing one to sneak around!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Wasn't it because of the war - that at any time they may lose electricity or have to go into an air raid shelter!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
