As the librarian said, they don't ban the films here in America they just make them cut out all the good scenes!. Typically in America they cut out the nude and sex scenes!. All the classic british horror films of the 60s and 70s are hacked to pieces in Americas version because the Europeans like a little breast action in their horror films, and the US censors don't!. So when you buy a dvd, make sure you know what version it is!. The Japanese have typically taken all the sex and gore they could get and movies would put in extra scenes for them (lucky bstrds!.) Nowadays US films are still censored, still much more for sex than for violence!. If you ask how they are censored, its the MPAA which rates the films and most theatres won't show a film that is unrated!. So to get the rating they want, the film makers will make the edits they are told to by the MPAA!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi there!

What a great question! Lots of horror films have been banned or censored over the years, in various countries and for various reasons!. In the U!.S!. now we have very few "banned" films, though censorship and heavy editing can still take place!. Probably the most banned horror film in history has been The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, though it might be considering somewhat tame (or even campy) by today's standards!. AlternativeReel has a list of the top ten banned movies, with a horror film being number one: Cannibal Holocaust!.

You might also be interested in Zombie Flesh Eaters!. Who isn't!? Check out the sources for some other great lists of films banned in various countries!.

In the UK, prior to 1984, the courts attempted to censors any films they thought might "deprave and corrupt" the viewer!. The Director Of Public Prosecutions maintained a list of those videos that were felt likely to be found obscene by the courts and hence worthwhile prosecuting!. Many films won out, but 39 films were banned!. You can see the current state of this list here, with many films still banned / censored: http://www!.melonfarmers!.co!.uk/nasties!.ht!.!.!. (note: probably NSFW)!.

Numerous horror films, including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th Part 3 and Friday the 13th: The Final cut, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Braindead are all banned in Germany (even the cut versions)!.

In anticipation of the upcoming Olympics, horror movies were officially banned in China!. This was apparently so that no tourists would be offended when they were visiting the country for the 2008 Olympics!.

I hope that answers your question! Cheers!

Anthropophagus: The Beast (or the GrimReaper as I have it on DVD now) was the No1 in the UK!. I managed to see it before they withdrew it - pretty sickat the time!. The DVD release is cut of some of the more serious bits (such as the bit with the pregnant woman) but it's still quite good (tho not aged very well)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
