You could interpret it that way!.!.!.I feel they were just a group of people who were not interested in living in the "rat race" anymore, and made their own little world!.!.!.But the film is a parable - to show us the pros and the cons of living in both worlds!.!.!.the dangers of deceiving ourselves and others!.!.!.how if you tell a lie, you sometimes have to build more lies on top of that one and then you sort of forget where the lie starts and ends!.!.!.There is much in the film that can be interpreted several ways!. I think that is open to interpretation!. That is certainly how I took it, though their intentions seemed more innocent than that usually associated with cults!.

They all wanted to escape from the crime in the real world, so they built their own 1800s village!. To keep their children from returning to the real world they made up 'those we do not speak of' so they would be too scared to leave!. It wasn't exactly a cult, just a village living as if it were hundreds of years in the pastWww@Enter-QA@Com
Kind of but no, It is a group of people who are traumatized by violent events in their lives, so they live there to hide (protect) themselves and their families from society!.

Sort of!. They were like people who believed in the ways of the olden times!.!.!.and they all lived secluded in one area!. So yes, basically they are!. And they used the monsters(elders dressed up) to keep the people in the cult in!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
No they are a secret community, that pretends they are living in the past in about the 1800's, no one in the community knows about the outside world except the elders!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
Nope, they're not in a cult but they just created a village of their own to escape the outside world and hardships and stuff like that!.

No, Cults worship and devote themselves to a religious figure or certain relgion!. These people were not centered around religion, they just did not want to conform to modern times!. They were absolutely NOT a cult!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
