Here's a more-recent one:
Song for a Raggy Boy (2003)
From IMDb:
"Song for a Raggy Boy" is based on the true story of a single teacher's courage to stand up against an untouchable prefect's sadistic disciplinary regime and other abuse in a Catholic Reformatory and Industrial School in 1939 Ireland!.
IMDb review:
An outstanding film from Ireland that is playing to strongly moved and even angry audiences in many parts of Europe as well as competing at the box office in its own territory favourably with such more obviously commercial movies as "Intermission" and "Veronica Guerin"!. It tackles the tough and difficult-to-film subject of child abuse and manages to uplift your emotions before devastating and dashing them!. All the performances, particularly those from Iain Glen as the sadistic priest Brother John and from John Travers as the lead boy Mercier are outstanding and achieving widespread recognition, and many people think this is Aidan Quinn's best role ever!. Skillfully and humanely handled by director Aisling Walsh, the film has more conviction than others in its family of films such as "The Magdalene Sisters" or "Conspiracy of Silence" and deserves to be seen anywhere it hasn't yet received a distribution!.

It's not Irish, but there's this one:
The Boys of St!. Vincent (1992 TV movie)
IMDb synopsis:
In the 1970s, a scandal is enveloping an orphanage in Canada: Priests in charge of the orphanage were sexually and physically abusing their young charges!. When several of the boys go to the police, their complaints are buried, as the chief of police, government officials, and senior clergy of the Catholic church quietly conspire to shut down the investigation and transfer the offending priests to other parishes!. Unfortunately, the pattern begins anew, as the abusive priests re-start their vile acts!. Many years later, victims start coming forward as adults, and an inquiry is commissioned into the cover-up of the abuse!. One offending ex-priest, Peter Lavin, now married with two young sons, soon finds himself on trial for his crimes of so many years ago!. A major scandal finally becomes public knowledge!.

I did find a mention of a film based in Ireland that might be what you are asking about, but I haven't found a title yet!. The one above is the only one I know about right now!.

NOTE: "Sleepers" opens in New York City!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The settting is not Ireland but one or more of the boys are Irish Catholics, I think!.!.!.
You might be thinking of Sleepers (1996)--Four boys growing up in Hell's Kitchen in N!.Y!. play a prank that leads to an old man getting hurt!. Sentenced to no less than one year in the Wilkenson Center in upstate New York, the four friends are changed by the beating, humiliation and sexual abuse by the guards sworn to protect them!. Thirteen years later and a chance meeting lead to a chance for revenge against the Wilkenson Center and the guards!. Stars Brad Pitt, Jason Patric, Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, etc!.
P!.S!.--I've seached the web and I can't find an Irish movie that depicts priests abusing young boys!. The closest I came was this movie called The Magdalene Sisters (2003) starring: Geraldine McEwan and Anne-Marie Duff!. It's an Irish film!.
Synopsis: Award-winning drama set in 1960s Ireland follows the lives of four young women who are sentenced to work for the Catholic Church in a Madgalene Sisterhoood Asylum in order to atone for their sins!. They are abused by the nuns!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
