Question: In the movie Half Nelson, why do you think Dan Dunne (Ryan Gosling) is a drug addict!?
Half Nelson is one of my favorite movies, and I appreciate that it doesn't neatly wrap everything up!. I wonder, though, why is Dan Dunne a drug addict!? He came from a family of hippie alcoholics, but that doesn't fully explain it!. Of course, we may only infer as to his motives, but what do you think the reason(s) is!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

There may not have been a reason that he was a drug addict,
maybe he did it once and became addicted, and was just trying it for the hell of it!.

Maybe he thought one man can't change anything anymore!. He had all these views and couldn't do anything about them by the end if I remember correctly he's not allowed to teach in his way he is told to conform to teaching, which shows even in the thing he loves he doesn't have a say in it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
hes quite clearly a sad sack and feels emotionally empty, and unfulfilled, his sexual life is practically non-existent, so i guess it would just be something to get hooked on to fill a void on his life and to feel something!. also, in his neighbourhood, it appears to be easy to obtain and not as socially unacceptable as elsewhere, due to low incomes, so he probably doesnt feel all that bad about it Www@Enter-QA@Com
