These days, a "genre" film means any film that appeals to a fanboy audience -- superhero, sci-fi, horror, action, etc!. If it's a film whose plot can be easily summarized by one of those terms, or a movie that's based on a comic book or TV show or videogame, or one whose fans might attend a convention, or one that's earning buzz on Ain't It Cool News, then it's a genre film!. In the old days, these would have been called B-movies or exploitation pictures, but nowadays, such movies are Hollywood's bread and butter, made with A-list stars, directors, and budgets!.
