Ah, the eternal question!.!.!.
For me it's Bela!. In "Dracula" (1931), Bela didn't have enough English to do the dialogue, so they brought in a coach to teach the Romanian-born actor to parrot the syllables! Then at night, they used the same sets, the same costumes, and some of the same actors (like Bela) to do the whole thing over again in Spanish! Romanian and Spanish both being Roman(ce) languages, Bela could do the Spanish, but not the Ingles!
Boris Karloff was great, though, and if you want to see one of his best performances, see him play himself (more or less) in Peter Bogdanovitch's early classic, "Targets!." Www@Enter-QA@Com

Although I think Bela's performances in Dracula, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Son of Frankenstein, and The Black Cat are without equal, my favorite icon is Boris--so many fine performances over a lifetime, consistently good, sometimes incredible: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Body Snatcher, Bedlam, Isle of the Dead, Comedy of Terrors, The Black Cat, Targets, the voice and narration of The Grinch, to name but a few!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Gotta lov'em both, but Bela was smooth!. Although Boris also played the mummy and was in some other flicks, the horror still goes to Bela!. Boris was actually a pretty cool gangster!. Ohh, and don't forget Lon Chaney Jr!. as the wolfman!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
simply cant chose between the 2!.
