The members of Pink Floyd deny it, but the album just fits too perfectly with the film for me to believe that the album wasn't written and timed to go along with the movie!.
What you do is play the movie, and then start the album right at the beginning of the second roar of the MGM Lion, and then mute the movie!. The album starts out soft with a heartbeat, so don't get discouraged, right away!. It's been a while since I have done that so I don't remember a lot of the coincidences, but a few that I do remember are:
1!. Dorothy looking skyward and moving her gaze from side to side as the sound (sort of) of aircraft is played!.
2!. The lyrics "race towards an early grave" being sung as Dorothy falls off the fence and into the pigpen!. (Judy Garland died at the relatively young age of 47!.)
3!. The sound of bike bells (among others) playing as Elmira Gulch rides her bicycle!.
4!. Uncle Henry swinging a paintbrush(!?) like a hand-held bell as the bell gongs in the intro to "Time"!.
5!. "Great Gig in the Sky" playing as the farmhouse and Dorothy are swept up into the sky by the tornado!.
6!. "Money" (which is the first song on side 2 of the original vinyl album, I believe) beginning just as the movie changes from black-and-white to color!.
7!. "Brain Damage" playing when Dorothy meets Scarecrow for the first time!.
There are many more coincidences, and if you google "Wizard of Floyd" I think you will find a few websites that list the coincidences!.

I think that this is one of those coincidences that is greatly influenced by cannabis!. It is eerie, but just coincident!. At least it seems to be!.
