Question: WHY WHY doe's Hollywood feel te need to remake classic brilliant films ggggrrrrrr!!!!?
Answers:
I agree (has anyone seen Jude Law's Alfie!? Ahem)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that financial reasons aside, sometimes it's because a director is a die hard fanboy/girl of the original!.

Other times, in the case of a foreign language movie, it is remade because Hollywood assumes, rightly or wrongly that a western audience is too lazy to read subtitles!. It is shocking, but some people will blankly not watch a subtitled movie!. Ringu is a good example of this!. A remake was not strictly needed!.

Peter Jackson's King Kong was a faithful adaptation on the other hand!. It pays homage to the original movie and brings it to the attention of a new generation!. I would consider it a success!. I think this is largely because he has a good deal of respect for King Kong and being a fan, has handled the material respectfully and well!.

Lets get this straight though, few movies these days are made unless it's going to make somebody some money!.

Most of the time though, no it's never as good!.

Some movies are cult classics and should never be touched!. The Wicker Man is a prime example!. also yes, the Coens are disgustingly talented but they should have left The Ladykillers alone, remaking it was arrogant of them I think- it is perfect as it is!.

It is actually a lot harder to remake something than it is to come up with an original screenplay!. People have high expectations when these are compared their much loved childhood movies and the end result can often be sorely lacking!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

They've been remaking movies since the beginning of filmmaking!. In the 50s, they were remaking films from the 30s!.!.!.it's just the way it is!. Especially now with the economy the way it is, they feel like they have to make a movie that's sure to return at the box office!. By the way, Will Smith is co-producing the movie, and not an executive producer, which means he is not financing the movie!. also, my understanding is that it is not a remake per se, it's more along the lines of The Next Karate Kid (1994) with Hilary Swank that explores the same themes, but not a direct remake!. More along the lines of the next film in the series!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It depends on the movie for me as for the movie referenced I think that is a waste of money!.
I would like to see some of the older war movies remade along with some of the westerns and fantasy "sinbad, thief of bagdad"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The answer, of course, is money!. Will Smith is rich enough to have a movie made for his son, and so he will!. Will it be great!? Hardly, but the point is to show the world that a) he's that rich, and b) he can make his son a star!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

They're too lazy to think up original ideas anymore, so they just take the easy route and re-make classic films (badly)!.

The only two good re-makes I can think of are: 'The Hills Have Eyes' and 'Dawn Of The Dead'!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Money seems to be the main reason that they do it and the sometimes mistaken belief that they can improve on the original!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

They just want money so when they can't think of anything original they remake a good film and usually wreak it =[Www@Enter-QA@Com

They have nothing else better to do!.
They are also making Robocop remake and JURASSIC PARK 4 !.!.O_0 WTFWww@Enter-QA@Com

Personally I think the studios have run out of ideas so they waste their time and ours with these pointless remakes!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

money money money!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the most remakes are garbagesWww@Enter-QA@Com
