Answers:
70's - VCR/VTR, microwave, cassettes, 8-tracks
80's - CD's, cable TV, satellite TV (but only with huge outdoor dishes - few people owned) boom boxes, video games (Atari, Intellivision, Nintendo, etc!.) cell phones the size of a brick, wireless remotes

Education - 70's - "open-school" concept (of which I was a victim) - Entire school has no walls between classrooms!. Very noisy! Hard to concentrate!.

Education - 80's - more laws concerning special education!. School districts began to abandon the "open-school" concept!. The elementary school I attended started putting up walls between the classrooms in the 80's, long after I'd left!.

Entertainment - 70's - a new movie would come out about once a month or less often!. Today, new movies seem to come out every week! Most movie theaters were old single-screen theaters!. Porno theaters were common!. It was common to see a title like "Debbie Does Dallas - XXX" plastered on theater marquee boards!. Today, porno has been relegated to the back room of the video store!.
There was no cable TV yet - there were only a handful of channels - ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and a few independent stations!. You had to use "rabbit ears" on your TV, and you actually had to get up and go to the TV to change the channel!.
People listened to music by playing a record on a turntable, or by playing 8-track tapes in their car!. The most popular form of dance was Disco!.

Entertainment - 80's - movies were now coming out pretty regularly, but they were mostly fun movies, and in some cases better quality, compared to today!. We now had video game consoles like Atari 2600 and Intellivision in the early 80's, then Nintendo came out in the late 80's!. Video game arcades with the standing machines were very, very popular during this time, but today, these places are fading out due to better home game systems!.
Home stereo was greatly improved from the 70's!. We now had "boom boxes", large but portable stereos that people sometimes carried around on their shoulder!. Sony Walkmans were popular!. CD's and CD players were born, as the LP record was phased out in the late 80's!. In 1988, record stores were selling both LPs and CDs!. Cassettes were also still sold!. The most popular form of dance was breakdancing!.
With the introduction of cable TV, the choice of channels exploded, and now you had MTV and movie channels like HBO, Showtime and Cinemax, and the Disney Channel, which was much more innocent back then!. There was only one channel for each of these!. There were also dozens of other channels!. MTV was quite different in the 80's than it is today!. It was "funner", had better VJ's and more videos!. In fact, videos were played 24/7!. Today's MTV is mostly ?-hour shows, and very few videos!. The station ID was a cartoon of the "MTV" logo and each one was different, had a different animation!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I guess these are all related questions, and even though they touch only tangentially on movies, I'll take a crack at them:
1) Besides the personal computer, the most far reaching innovations have been the Internet and digital technology itself!. Digitalization, and the accompanying realization that all information can be easily stored, shrunk, and transported by converting it into strings of 1s and 0s, has affected the way we understand the world and communicate with each other with an impact we still can't fully imagine or fathom!. The Internet is becoming the primary means by which this vast exchange of information is taking place!.
2) I'd guess that education is one place where the Internet is the primary difference between now and 20 years ago!. I don't know if kids are any smarter because they have vast information resources at their fingertips and can find in seconds what it used to take a trip to the library and hours of research to find, but at least it's an option that students didn't have two decades ago!.
3) The big changes in entertainment in those decades were toward increasing personalization and portability!. Thanks to the VCR and the personal stereo (first, the portable 8-track, and then the Walkman), you could program your own entertainment for the first time -- choosing your own movies or TV shows to watch and your own music to listen to!. The stereo, which had once filled a room, was now something you could take with you on your belt!. And for the first time, television wasn't a passive experience of waiting to receive a signal but choosing your own fare and watching it on your own schedule!. The digital reviolution has only increased these trends, but they began in the '70s and '80s with now-clunky analog tape devices!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Back in the 70's, we didn't have cell phones, computers, microwaves, CD's or DVD's, cars were made stronger and sturdier, no guns in the schools!. As for education, getting "swats" or spanked is no longer the thing for school punishment!. Personally, I think that is a shame!. Too many guns and gangs in school!. Education is based alot on the internet now!. Entertainment became more violent and sexually explicit, but not like it is now!. Seeing Suzanne Sommers with her boobs bouncing around without a bra would be nothing these days!. It was outragous in the 70's!. Hope that makes sense!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Internet, modems, Cordless and cel phone became available (handsfree car phone was $800)!. Portable walkman was HUGE so was Pacman videogames!. Microwave, Gameboy, boombox, post-it came out!. Weather channel made his first debut

change in education: it's more biased, teachers now can put their political views on students, student can now sue schools, less qualified students attend higher grade schools and are often guaranteed to pass (i!.e!. no child left behind)

Entertainment: We used to go to listen to records, went to discos watched break dance championships, now kids go on the internet or watch MTV!. in the early 80's gay's came out of the closet more, there was alot of drag type entertainment (devine, klaus nomi, culture club, dead or alive) Michael Jackson came out with thriller!. Indiana Jones and ghost buster, empire strikes back was big

hope this helps someWww@Enter-QA@Com

The cell phone is huge!.!.!.!.education has changed, in 1st grade i was being taught to "see dick run" "see jane run"!.!.!.yada yada!.!.!.!.now they are learning what "specialty" is!.!.!.!.entertainment changed because of the availability of computers!.!.!.!.i!.e!., using one person to perform all band functions with his computer and the fact that people became more tolerant of swear words in music!.!.!.!.!.like rap and heavy metal!.!.!.!.they made us have ratings to show the level of maturity needed to listen, just like in moviesWww@Enter-QA@Com
