Hi there!.
Saruman found the palantir when he took possession of Orthanc, gifted to him by the then king of Gondor after the great plague!.
Sauron got his possibly from the great dome of Osgiliath after the city was destroyed, but more likely when the Ringwraiths conquered Minas Morgul they sent a palantir from there to Barad-dur!.
The close connection between Sauron's palantir and the one held by Denethor in minas Tirith suggests it is the Morgul stone, though!.
Cheers, Steve!.
PS I should get out more!Www@Enter-QA@Com

If memory serves, the palantir were used as communication between the two towers!.
The one palantir was in the tower at Isengard where Saruman took up residence for a time!.
Gandalf was also attacked there!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
