Is there any other gangster movie fans that thinks Godfather is overrated?!
Question: Is there any other gangster movie fans that thinks Godfather is overrated!?
First, I thought it was stupid how they make Michael Corleone leave his girlfriend in USA to go to Italy and fall in love with another woman, then when she dies, he goes back to USA and gets with the girlfriend again!. This made him look very weak and shallow I thought!. No dignity!.
I also didnt like all the italian speaking in both movies!. I understand they added it for realism, since gangsters speak in italian often, but they could have added subtitles, since they knew it was a movie mostly americans would watch, and most americans dont speak italian!. If it was just a few parts, that would be ok, but in part 2, the italian parts were way too long!.
I also thought that the parts with Robert Deniro as Vito Corleone were just filler in part 2!. Like they only added that story of Vito when he was younger because they ran out of plot for the real story that was going on with Michael!.
All in all, I think they are good movies and they did an excellent job of getting the whole "feel" that those times had, the scenery and everything!. It had a certain class that movies today just dont have!. But I dont think the plot and details compare to most other gangster/drug movies like Scarface, Goodfellas, etc!. which I think are way better!.

I'm going to disagree with you i'm afraid!.For me, its one of the greatest films ever made!.
The opening marriage scene is superb in capturing the time and style of that era!.It draws you in from the opening scene and doesn't let go til the very end!.
Your first point about Michael going back to Italy was because of him killing the policeman!.Weak and Shallow!? This was a guy who stepped up to the plate when an attempt was made on his fathers life!.He never had any inclination about joining the family business up until then!.The only reason he marries Kim is to provide an heir to the throne, so to speak!.It was pretty obvious his heart lay with Appolonia!.She was italian,she would have accepted his job, whereas Kay was an independent woman!.Killing your own brother is hardly the sign of a weak man!.
If you want a fast paced gangster movie then watch Scarface!. If you want an intelligent film about how the Mafia influenced politicians and spread across many industries then Godfather is your one!.
Without The Godfather you wouldn't have had Goodfellas,The Sopranos,Casino etc!.
Why add subtitles!? It very much adds to the whole gang mentality!.It keeps the viewer on the edge of their seats, especially when Michael is meeting Sallazo in the restaurant!.
Part 2 and the early scenes with De Niro are a vital part so as to understand how he rose to authority and the influence he had over Clemenza and Tessio!.

Overrated!. I think your right about the other great gangster movies, they just seem to be more upbeat and exciting!. This movie is on TV to much, I'm getting tired of watching it Www@Enter-QA@Com

YES finally like i go to a school with lots of Italians and they all love that movie and i saw it and i was "it's not that big of a deal" When i watched it, it was long and boring i almost fell asleep and they ending was rediculas!. Oh and the the boss isn't really that great i mean people are making it a bigger deal than it already is and ScarFace is another one of those stupid overrated movies like it came out in the 70's and peeps are still talkin about it geez when are these people gonna move on with thee livesWww@Enter-QA@Com
