Can you use guitar effects pedals on bass guitars too?!
Question:
Can you use guitar effects pedals on bass guitars too?
I'm trying to find a nice bass effects pedal, particularly a compression pedal but am having a hard time finding one worth buying.
Answers:
To answer your first question, yes, you can definitely use guitar effect pedals on your bass guitar. In fact, it can be a heck of lot of fun.
Regarding the second half of your question, one of the finest bass players I know, and a valued Guitar World editor, Matt Scharfglass, highly recommends the Boss LMB-3 Bass Limiter/Enhancer, which retails for $104.50 (if you shop, around you can definitely find it for much less). It's specifically designed for the electric bass and Matt finds that it gives him a lot of control over his entire dynamic range.
Matt says, "It's really transparent and the "Enhance" knob is great because it gives a nice little kick to my high-end frequencies."
Boss also makes a number of other pedals designed specifically for the bass player, including the CEB-3 Bass Chorus, the GEB-7 Bass Equalizer and the ODB-3 Bass OverDrive. For more info go to: www.bossus.com
