Answers:

Every voice needs work. The foundation of any voice is breath and getting enough of it... full, open and relaxed at the same time.

I believe that it's near impossible to learn to do anything like singing or playing an instrument the right way from a book, particularly when we aren't always the best judges of what we are actually doing in relation to ourselves. In this way, it's different than say putting a bookshelf together with instructions. We are all built differently and our bodies work differently, so it's nearly impossible to know if we are doing something really right without guidance.

I know a number of singers who were "natural" singers, meaning they always had the coordination to sing correctly without anyone telling them to. 98% of all people who can sing are not like this and had to be given tools to learn what to do.

If you are serious about training your voice, look around for teachers. Someone may believe in your talent enough to give you lessons for free or trade for washing their car a few times a week or something. There may also be a way to acquire lessons through a school if you are affliated with one. It also depends on what your goals are vocally speaking.
