Singing with passion? How?!

Singing with passion? How?
I love singing, friends say that Iam a great singer when we play those karaoke games, and said I have alot of potential.. But what I just realized is I can't sing with passion.. I don't know why.. Its like I only have one tone. It sounds as if I sing with one note..
How can i make it so i can sing with many notes? I tried singing many notes, but i just cant do it, I tried being emotional and all that sorts of stuff, I tried thinkinga bout emotional things, but it doesn't work either!
Does anyone here have any tips for me?
P.s. I can't afford voice lessons..

I heard from someone that you have to color the lyrics and notes. Read over the lyrics a few times, and put yourself in that situation/emotion. It really helps.
