Overall, is The South the best region for hip hop?!

Question: I was just thinking about something. The South has gifted lyricists like Ludacris, Outkast, Little Brother, Scarface and others. They have put together some good albums like rappers from other region. But one thing that stands out is the dances they create. The South has produced the Bankhead Bounce of the early 2000's, 2 Step, Walk it Out the Laffy Taffy and Motorcyle. Those dances have giving people a dance to enjoy when partying in the club or when they want to just have a good time with family at a cookout. New York recently has created the Aunt Jackie, Watch My Feet and Chicken Noodle Soup with only the last dance really being there only hit. The West has so many underground dances but it seems they will not be sweeping our country anytime soon.

With all that said, do you agree or disagree?

Disagree

*NY/East Coast

East-Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Rakim, KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Big Pun, DMX, Slick Rick, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMX, Fugees, Joe Budden, Redman, The Roots, Beanie Segal, Cassidy, Freeway, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, 50 Cent [pre-Massacre]

so we're gonna make an argument for a region to be the best in hip hop based on the number of dances they make?

watch my feet is from chicago, not new york
and new yorkers i believe have been doin the aunt jackie since the 80's

u say Ant's argument sucked...but all u did was say gifted lyricists w/ no explanation...The Midwest has gifted lyricists, The West has gifted lyricists, The East has gifted lyricists...there's more to hip hop then who can sit around and make up the best dance

Eason, but thats your only emphasis...yea they have artists that put out good albums...so does The West, so does the Midwest, so does the East...they have dances; so does the East, so does the Midwest, an so does the West...you're not saying anything we dont know

and some South Stans just cant give an unbiased opinion...."Jay-z & Nas Suck".......smarten up Jerry

west stans are deep too

Naw WESTSIDE!!!! lol

Right now, I live in Houston TX and - at the moment- it seems like it is pouring out a lot of good hip-hop. The underground for that genre is huge in this city.

you mean... best region to sell album?
i think south is not the best right now... soulja boy, hurricane chris... a lot of money men are sitting on the south...
Midwest is best region to make good lyrics... then again, midwest are not really good for beat!
what about the WestCoast? the gangsta style raps and beat, ghetto coast the world? well, it's kinda my favorite region but sometime, westcoast is really hard to get along
EastCoast! Jay-Z, Nas and you can't even count all the great rappers from there... but thing is their lyrics are start to resembling south style(Jim Jones and some other east guys)

in my opinion, if you wanna sell a lot of albums, go to south or east! if you wanna do the art, you go to midwest! if you think you are the gangsta forever, you go to west

I agree to a certain extent...

I agree a bit with O RLY

EDIT: I just read all of O RLY stuff and I dont agree with that middle statement lol hell naw

Uhhh wow. I disagree on the dance argument...THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE SELLING THE SOUTH ON...A DANCE? =/

But yeah i agree with the statement. The South is the best region for hip hop RIGHT NOW. I said it before its on top in terms of the mainstream with people like Wayne, Luda and TI and whatnot. But when it comes to the underground its even better. CUNNINLYNGUISTS, SUPASTITION, Z-RO is all i have to say.

As far as all time, i think the South comes in last though. East coast wins that one...too many classic albums for the South to ever compete with.

Its not even close. Forget about the 2000s, lets take it back to the 90's. Master P and No Limit, Cash Money, Outkast, Triple Six Mafia, Youngbleed, B-Lo and C-Loc both from my hometown. Don't ever forget, Master P had the whole world saying, "Uh, na, na, na, na."

i agree. Thank God for outkast. (and the others, outkast is more important though) as for ants arguement, it didn't suck but i don't think the east is better cuz it threw rappers like Nas, Jay-Z and LL Cool J at us. they suck

yea

u nvr mentioneed me

The south makes the best music in my opinion.

No.

You want to take about dances? How about getting stupid, dumb, goin' 18 dummy. The thizz dance is the best dance anyone associated with hip-hop has come up with.

And if you want to talk about artists, the West Coast absolutely shits on the East Coast. I won't list them all, but keep in mind for every Little Brother you have, we have a Blackalicious or a Murs or etc.

And the fact that the dance isn't sweeping the country makes it worse?

You are saying that you want hip-hop to be thought of as more than the rapping. But your argument disregards rapping and focuses only on the dancing.

And besides, if you want fun, what is more fun than shaking your dreads while you have stunna shades on while ghostriding the whip?

Actually, seeing as YA RLY can only name 5 underground artists, I'll tell you why...

Hieroglyphics (and think of all the albums from their members as solo artists and mini-groups and collabs like Deltron 3030)
The Coup (Much, much better than Dead Prez, and has been going longer)

Chali 2na/Jurassic 5
Zion I (no one fucks with Zion I)
Planet Asia
Aceyalone
Dilated Peoples
Blue Scholars (made album of 2007 possibly)
Blu & Exile (made album of 2007 probably)
People Under The Stairs
Ras Kass

oh, and for dancing, how about krumping?

Don't get into a war that you can't possibly win.

if anything its the worse............east side is da shiznitt.

no south is not the best spot for hip-hop right now the media is focusing in on just them,i,m old school i grew up off new-york rap and hip-hop ,i,m from kc so out this way we groove alot of westcoast, the westcoast is still popping that good stuff but it seems like everybody is riding down south ,which to me sucks, because they missing out on some real street muzac.that it looks like it,s staying underground.
