Thought's on this?!

Question: krs-one stated in an interview that kanye west isn't hip hop,and further proceeded to degrade the soul-touching "flashing lights"
then he went on later to glorify fifty cent and say he misses the boom boom tap in music.
what do you think:
is kanye hip hop?
is "flashing lights" hip hop?
is it right to glorify hip hop that usually discusses drugs, girls, money and gangbanging?
is innovative beats (such as timberland and swizz beatz) un hip hop?
any other comments you have??

KRS-One has no right to be critical of Flashing Lights. It is an absolute classic of Hip Hop. It incorporates R n B, Rap and Percussion in a way no other rapper can. How can Kanye not be Hip Hop material when all three of his studio albums have been certified for platinum in total 5 times? He must be doing something right if he makes songs that regularly and still attracts awards! Whoever doubts Kanye West is a fool. His music makes people click in a way no other rapper has tried. Every rapper is stereotypically in the gangsta genre of hip hop.

As for 50 cent, he is not worthy of hip hop! He made a brilliant first album called Get rich or die tryin' but hasn't kept fans interested since. Ayo Technology is the only good song off his album Curtis. I get money has no substance. He thinks he is tough because he is rich and he thinks he runs new york. If he did, why isn't he mayor! 50 cent rarely makes music to a quality. Even Ja Rule has made a better song called "Body"! Kanye is the saviour of hip hop. When will people learn!

i think kanye west is hip hop
he has great song
his songs are some of the greatest

kanye is hiphop
not all hiphop discusses those things....some may discuss it but not neccesarily glorify it
hiphop is a way people can express themselves, as with any other form of music

hip-hop is any thing that goes against whats normal. 50 ent is not your normal rapper and neither is kanye. so both are considered hip-hop in the instance tat both do go against the masses. 50 is definitly apart of what KRS has been doin by pretty much disturbing the peace legally. KRS always had thought provoking and often brow rasinig lyrics but it was mostly from his perspectives. 50 is the same way. fif pretty much envisons his world and teleports it to us not for entertainment but to inform the blind what life is still like in these enviorments. fif places the thoughts of a common street niggas on wax. while KRS was the voice of the lost people, meaning the folks that were poverty stricten and victims of hood violence. Kanye brings both thos elements to the table but instead of speaking for the common street *****. he is speaking from the common black man. who has expericance both sides of the struggle both in the streets and in the offices. so who is KRS to say he isn't hip-hop? he has the upper hand on alot of what these other MC's are rappin about. i'm from the hood and did what a typical hood native would do. i survived. i had alil husle, i ran the streets i bust my gun. but I also went to college, worked in the corprate offices. soccoliszed with millionares and CEO's. Kanye gave me hope to one day see my dream of being aprat of the culture come true. i did all that quote un quote gangsta **** but it doesn't defined me. i'm book smart and hella intellegend with the addition of having the charm to converse with high profile exces and have their undivided attention. but that doesn't defined me either. I defined me. And My definiton is a very talented, very intellegent young black man tryin to leave his mark on socicety. if a ***** like kanye can get the respect form his peers who, when he first started, never even took him serious; A cat like me, can definitly succeed in gettin my voice heard and my story seen....

It's not Boom Boom Tap it's Boom Bap.

Don't go around acting like you're hiphop, and you're offended or think it's absurd that KRS-One would say Kanye West isn't hiphop...when you, yourself do not know sh!t about the Boom Bap.

It's funny people are like "oh yeah I love hiphop music, I listen to Kanye West, Mos Def and Common...but I don't like that gangsta rap stuff". And then you just know of names like KRS-One, Rakim and Marley Marl. But you've never heard of someone like Guru/Gangstarr

Don't you understand he's not discrediting Kanye. He's just saying Kanye's not hiphop...as in the culture/art/style of hiphop. He's rapping...but he's not hiphop. He's rapping over some R&B tracks and such...but he's not denying Kanye's talent. So saying he sold 5million copies of his CDs is absolutely irrelevant. And I want to smack the girl below me that says who cares about KRS-One, and how these "legends" think they know everything because they were there in the start. Ummmm yeah, do you see how crappy rap is these days when we have "Holla Back Girl" "Laffy Taffy" "Ay Bay Bay" "Souljah Boy" etc taking over? Nobody even cares about lyrics anymore. I'm upset for those "legends" who created this art form to see the billions pumped into it to turn it into this garbage we now call rap. - - - - I love that Kanye is not a part of that.

Thank You Fatboy Silm! I love Kanye West! He is the best thing that came out of Chicago since the Bulls in the 90s. KRS-One is so irreverent, I dobut if anyone know who he is. Thats the problem with some of these so call "legends," they think becasue they've been in the game since the being they know every damn thing but they don't know nothing.

KRS One retracted that statement a while ago. He said that he did not mean Kanye was not hip hop. He meant he did not make the kind of music KRS One could relate to. He could feel what an artist from the streets is saying.

he's right kayne is not hip hop just listen to "workout plan" or "gold digger". Kanye is a fake *** wanna be J Dilla (RIP)
