I think the beats are more significant than the rapper..anybody agree? disagree?!

Question: no doubt.....they both need eachother.........BUT its easier for a beatmaker/producer...to make a rapper sound good than it is for a rapper to make a beatmaker/producer sound good? agree??

id have to disagree. if you go back, you'll find that the beats werent really that complicated, mostly just a boom bap feel (for the most part). and if you think of battle rapping, all the beat really does is give the rapper a sort of time table for his punches. also, beats were made for people to flow on them! so id have to say no, because if you factor in the storytelling and metaphors that lyrics bring to the table, then id say that lyrics are more important than the beats

absolutely not..if i were, on a scale of 10 (adding up to 10) i'd give the MC about an 8.5 and the producer about a 1.5...the only thing a producer really does is keep the song alive for the MC to rip up...

disagree completely....

lyrics>>>> Beats

ya i definitely agree. and while if i hate the rapper and love the beat, i still might not listen to it, i would be more likely to listen than if it was a rapper i liked on a horrendous beat.

I agree. Nowadays, rap producers have more fame and success than those that rap over their beats. Also, follow the money: if rappers were more important than producers overall, why is it that producers get paid WAY more to lay down a track. And rappers like Jay Z are the exception that prove the rule (besides the fact that nowadays he only uses amazing producers).

to be honest with you i stopped listening to rap because the rappers get gayer buy the day but if i hear a good beat ill listen to the song.

But the best Rapper is Lil Wayne. Hands Down.

Personally I think that you need both to cut that Monster Album. Take Ice-Ts Body Count or Run DMCs King of Rock albums. both beat and talent = AZZ KICKIN' ALBUMS!!!!

it depends some rappers can't write a song with out a beat others are the opposite like i jump in between.

I gotta disagree...to put it plain and simple...I could listen to a great rapper a cappella all day...I can listen to a great beat for only a few minutes before I get bored of it...I need the emcee man...

I disagree!!! Although at first the beat is important because it gets you to pay attetion, the more I listen to a song, the more I get tired of it, and if the rapper isn't saying anything worthwhile, I just forget about the whole thing after a few weeks.

I agree.
When someone listens to a song, you know if you're going to like it right away by the beat and the hook.
That's why there are so many wack rappers out there, like soulja boy for example. The lyrics are very juvenile, but the beat and the hook sounds good.
After a rapper is long gone, a good beat will get redone in the future, and the producer will get paid. Very seldom will you hear someone redo a line from another rapper unless that rapper was super good lyrically like Slick Ricks "Loddie Doddie", which Snoop redid, with a little twist.

i believe its the lyrics that makes the song ..the beat helps and catches the attention of the listener tho..so i guess the beat has to be decent enough but the lyrics gotta be there

I agree but at the same time i dont.

I agree because there are several rappers out there that simply cant rap if their life depended on it & the only thing that saved the song was the beat

But i dont agree because you take a real lyricist such as 2Pac & he dont need a beat, he could rip any beat no matter what the quality of it was. So hes an exception with a few other rappers that make the beat sound good.

Also, majority of the time its easier for a producer to make the rapper sound good with the audio effects the can do. Take T-Pain, his producers use audio effects to make his voice the way it is. He doesnt really sound like that. Ive heard his work before they did effects to & ehh not that great, but after the effects wow. Sounds pretty amazing.

sometimes.....rappers like 50 cent come to mind....whack lyrics over a nice beat..and those talking about lilwayne being the best rapper.....'jessica up there'...are either retards or.....stupid...retards !!!

I disagree for all the same reasons all these other people do. Why was Tupac significant? Because of his lyrics. A beat isn't going to make people aware of what's going on in the world, the struggles, the injustice, the good times, the victories, etc. Only an MC can tell a story. The Beats just make things more colorful. You can feel the MC's rhythm without a dj in the mix, but you can't hear the message from just the beats.

Personally, I disagree. Lyrics to me are much more important. I don't care how good a beat is, if I'm not feeling the lyrics then I'll switch off.
It's all about personal taste though. I asked a question a while back about whether lyrics or beat was more important, and more people said lyrics than beat - but it was pretty close.
For me, I think a good producer can work with anyone, but a bad lyricist really shouldn't be rapping.
