Southern hip hop (if not by location then definitely by style) is at the top of the commercial rap industry. Next thing you know he drops a cd talking about how hip hop is now dead. He's basically saying that anybody at the top is garbage. I happen to agree.

nas never dissed the south, he just threw that rock (hip hop is dead) into the pack of wolves (the industry).....only ones disputin it were the ones that got hit

its funny bcause Nas never directed the hip hop is dead message towards anyone or any rap genre being west coast or dirty south or whateva, most of the southern artists mustve already known they were makin bulls*** music or they wouldnt have responded like "what im makin is hip hop" they basically took the blame for hip hop's "death" and acted ignorant by takin it as an insult, you noticed who didnt respond right, OutKast, UGK, Ludacris, T.I., Scarface, etc. the rappers rappin bout some real ish.
i agree 110% with the guy above me. I'd love to see anyone of the 90% of rappers that are garbage in the south try to beef with Nas. That would be funny as hell.
