Question: Should a singer play guitar in a rock band if there is also another guitarist? I mean the singer would be like backup guitar but can singers play too? What bands have a singer who plays guitar and another guitarist?

Some of the above are lead guitarists who sing , some are rhythm guitarists who sing , some play lead and rhythm and sing.

A lot of bands actually have a singer who plays guitar and also sings.
And also, Megadeth's singer plays lead guitar and they have a rhythm guitarist.
So my answer to that question "Should a singer play guitar?" would be "if they can play it and they're willing to play for their band, then go ahead!"
Most lead singers play some other type of instrument... either piano or guitar or bass guitar or violin or something.
I only know a few bands where the lead singer DOESN'T play an instrument.
How about Megadeth!!! Dave Mustaine is a great guitar player!!! How about Metallica!!! James Hetfield!!! DUDE I CAN GO ON AND ON WITH THIS ONE!!!
theres ALOT of bands were the singer is also their only lead guitarist like chevelle so if you can remember the chords and stuff and the words to the song then go for it.
The Clash are the only band you need to know to see that the singer being a rhythm guitarist isn't a bad thing at all. Plus it definitely adds to the atmosphere of awesome.

green day is one. billie joe plays guitar and sings. i think they pull it off. i guess it really depends on the band, what ever works best for them.
definatley. but only play rythmn guitar. tons of bands have guitarists as singers, foo fighters, smashing pumpkins, and when nirvana was around kurt cobain did vocals and guitar.
