I have never heard it used, but by reading the other answers, I have a good idea of what it means and how it is meant.
So, it should be retired and never should have been started. That is my opinion.

we live in a society where we cry about the injustice of stereotyping and prejudices and we complain about the lack of equality... and THEN, we invent and use terms such as "no homo" because we feel we have to exonorate ourselves from any preconceived notion that we may be gay, as if being gay would have a negative effect on the judgement of our character?
In laments terms-- using the phrase 'NO HOMO" empowers the phrase "HOMO" as well as encourages negative views on homosexuality.

I have never heard this except in it's Latin reference which as I am sure you know has nothing to do with sexual preferences other than homo would mean man or mankind in general. If it is being used in a different context then that is just plain ignorance however "homo" is part of our language in many words. Fools and just plain ignorance can turn anything into something else.
