Your teacher will give you all the practice material you need. If they don't give you enough, ask and they'll be happy to give you more!

If you really want to do something besides your lessons, try using your ear and figuring out how to play on violin the songs you like to listen to on the radio or your ipod, etc. That kind of training is priceless and very fun once you get the hang of it! Most professional violinists that I know always wished they had done that type of training early on... it's actually what Yo Yo Ma did... although he's a cellist... he's one of the most amazing musicians ever to live!

I welcome you to the world of music and wish you many years of practice, happiness, music making, failures and frustrations(they're necessary for getting better!)and successes!

Oh and here's some sites for beginner violin music, just to give you a taste!

Once you start taking lessons, your teacher will most likely give you music. That's what you should be practicing when you don't have lessons, so I wouldn't worry about finding other music. I know that my teacher gives me plenty to work on, but if I ever have any extra time she's always willing to give me more. Also, you might want to consider joining an orchestra or some other musical group after a certain point; it will give you more experience and you will improve faster.

Good luck!

Your teacher will give you music but I would buy the first four volumes of the Suzuki series. There is a lot of music in them and they do not cost much. You will use them for years.

I can lead you to a hew sites with no problem. Be sure and share the sites, as well as the music, with our teacher so he or she knows what you are doing. The learning process is, or should be, a partnership where you both take responsibility for your roles as mentor and learner. The more you share with each other, the closer that relationship can become.

Anyway, these links ought to keep you usy for awhile. If you need more, give me a shout and I'll see what I can do for you. Also go to the links section of each site I listed, and they will tell you of other sites they recommend.

Hope This helps.

I've been playing for a long time and I highly reccommend Suzuki volumes 1-10. I also reccommend Barbara Barber's Solo for Young Violinists. They parallel with Suzuki books, however your teacher will find the best music to suit you.
