I have a spider III 30.. I love my amp it sounds really good with a Godin guitar... What guitar do you play ?
I have this big Kustom 100 Watt amp and I made a plugged my Line 6 into my cabinet and now it sounds really awesome, I can get a really good Slayer, Sabbath, Metallica, SOAD, Misfits, Motley Crue... i can get any good sound with my combo of Godin, Line 6, and Kustom...

Good amps are; Marshall, some of Crate, Fender, Peavey, Traynor, Orange, Line 6 when you find the right one, Krank is very good too. [[(( DO NOT ))]] GET A MARSHALL MG-ANYTHING... THEY SUCK ! ASK ANYONE ON UG

Also, look into a pedal, get a DigiTech Death Metal... It is a single effect pedal that gives you screaming distortion that sounds awesome.

My kustom i got used for 200 bucks, its a bass and guitar amp which is pretty cool, my L6III was only like 250, the Godin was 581.41 and I got a DigiTech DM for like... 99.01 or something like that.

Just go down to your local music store and try out there selection, bring **your** guitar that you play though, then you'll know what it sounds like.

Hope I helped... Good luck finding an amp.
Don't forget, different guitars will sound different on the same amp, especially if made by a different company.
Have a good day !

this is good for the $$$$

Try a Vox AD 100 VT .

I would buy a Crate amp - US made and not hissy like Peavey. Try one and let me know if you like it.
guitar player of 35 years.

Just bought a Fender Twin Reverb for just over $1000. It's a '65 remake tube model. Incredible ! I have a line 6 Spyder too. You might look at the Fender De Ville, it might be exactly what you are looking for.

I would go with something from Marshall. If you want to get something really good go with a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, but that will probably be more than a grand unless you get it used or get a hell of a deal. Dont get Crate, I made that mistake a couple years ago (they sound like poo)

Whatever you do: GET SOMETHING WITH TUBES! Please don't get anything solid state. Tubes sound soooo much better. Mesa Boogies are awesome, An old Marshall Artist might go for around $1000. If you're willing to spend up to $1000, you should be able to get something good no problem. Don't overlook a good classic used amp. Most of them are better than what anybody makes nowadays, you just have to make sure they've been maintained and treat them with a little love.

Take you primary guitar down to the music store and try out allthe amps you like.

$1000 is good scratch to get something decent. By MY opinion, a decent Fender combo will do you just fine unless you are playing large venues.

But my opinion doesn't matter as much as your satisfaction, so try out all different sorts. Don't let them talk you into something that you may not want, but DO listen to what the sales people may know about the various features and listen to the amps.

Get a tube amp. It's the only real way to go for what you're looking for.

I am very impressed with the Kustom line, they make very good quality amps, mostly tube, with very good sounds. Often the watts are a little lower, making it a little easier to get a fuller sound at a slightly lower volume, too.

Carvin is a possibility, too, they're direct order but I've heard many good things about them.

Don't get a Marshall MG anything. Those MGs suck, suck, suck.

Whatever you get, look for a cabinet that has a low watt speaker - Vintage 30's if you can get them. 30w will breakup sooner than 75w, for instance, meaning that you will get a sweeter sound at lower volumes.
