Better singing?!

Question: Does anyone know why I usually sing/sound better in the shower when I sing? Or, is this only because of the tiles and it makes it echo? My voice teacher says you will always sound correct (better) in the shower or over a microphone.

Hi Singer-
The reason you sound better is actually a combination of a few things.

1st and most important especially if you plan on being a siger.

Moisture is the area Helps you Vocal Chords vibrate.
It allows you throat to open up. You know when you have a cold and you are all stuffed up? Well, what do many doctors say to do? Use a Humidifier. It helps open your sinuses and throat.
When you are in the shower and you sing the moisture in the air helps your vocal chords perform there best.

Here is a personal hint- On days where you are vocally exhuasted [and I would really just do it then, or when you really need to be on top vocally, performances etc.] Start your warm ups in the shower. Try a ooo vowel as in Knew. Just to get you started don't push your range out of where you feel comfortable. Then continue warm ups regularly after shower and when you normally do them.

2nd reason- The ability to hear yourself helps you tune yourself better. The tiles and the inclosed area allows the singer to hear themselves. This is unlike say a hall clo0set that is small but many times certain wallpapers and type of walls suck in the noise so it doesn't come back as well.

3rd Reason- You feel more free. You are not singing for anyone but yourself. You are doing the thing you love for no one else, not a teacher, not an audience, and no judgeing ears. You have more confidence and that small part alone does make a different in the way you sound.

I hope this helps. Good Luck with everything [By the way your voice teacher is right]

I think it's a confidence thing. You can really let go in the shower and try for every note. In front of a mike you will be self concious and worried.

im sorry but i really dont know .. but you know if you think you sing good then you sing good

everyone sounds better in the shower it makes your voice echoe and gives it a deeper and smoother sound.

Reverberation!

A good singer knows the accoustic point in every room within which they sing, and attempts to put themselves there before singing.

My shower room has a central point and a resonance note around g flat - this is the note which will feed back or get most reverb.

A running shower provides moist air, and tends to absorb vocal overtones, that's why we sound better too.

However, a properly trained voice actually has fewer overtones which sound like blemishes or rough edges.

you see in a shower you sing better becaus your doing it naturally than when u try

It maybe because of the tiles and the surroundings but I beleive that singing in an environment where you feel relaxed and whole can make you expresse yourself clearly and vocally and also there is more feeling to it.

Imagine that you are in a peaceful ,wonderful place while singing and feel the song ,,always feel the words of the song,,if it's a sad song feel it,,likewise when it's a happy song,,when you feel the song and have good control,,your singing ability will grow immensely..

It's true you always do sound better in a small space. The acoustics in a shower are better, from the confined space and the space.
